Looking back, this trip was probably one of the moments that quietly started it all.

We drove to Copenhagen in my old bus to pick up Sascha’s first motorcycle — the same bike that pushed him to finally get his license in the first place.

It was never just about the motorcycle.
It carried something bigger. Freedom, curiosity, movement. The beginning of something.

We spent the night somewhere along the road, talked for hours, shared an oversized pizza and drove back home full of ideas and inspiration.

Simple moments, but the kind that stay with you.

Trips like these became a big part of what eventually turned into ME AND THE WASTED.
We met Nils while hiking through Norway.

A veterinarian, living by a fjord in the southwest with a small cabin, a boat and endless generosity.

He welcomed us like old friends.

We climbed peaks, baked bread over the fire, caught trout on the lake and shared slow evenings by the shore.

I photographed him a few times on his property with my analog camera, but this portrait stayed with me.
There is a quiet strength in it that felt familiar to the landscape around him.

Some places leave an impression because of their scenery.
Some because of the people.

Nils gave us both.
A quiet moment captured in Byron Bay, Australia.

What I still love most about this frame is the calm feeling it carries.
The stillness, the distance, the way the ocean almost swallows everything around it.

I never saw the surfer from the front, which somehow makes the image feel even more mysterious to me.
Just a passing moment, a stranger in the water, gone again a few seconds later.

One of those photographs I keep coming back to over and over again.

I met Nils around the time I started getting into rebuilding and personalizing motorcycles.

We got along so well that, not long after, we ended up buying two old Shovelhead Harleys together — and Nils brought them back to life in his own way.

The bikes are long gone by now, sold and scattered somewhere else down the road.
But the spirit behind those days stayed with us.

And more importantly, so did the friendship.

I met Jan — better known as “Jan the Gun” — during a trip through northern Spain along the coast with a couple of friends.

We surfed almost every day.

Jan was a true character. A real free spirit.
He lived out of a tiny car together with his dog Chachi, always moving, always smiling, never seeming to need much.

And honestly, maybe that was the whole point.

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to feel free.
What matters most is the mindset.
